What is the Program?

Christie Hall, Intrinsic Yoga School
“Study of the silent moments between rising and restraining subliminal impressions is the transformation of consciousness towards restraint.”
Yoga Sutra 3.9, Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, B.K.S. Iyengar

Intrinsic School of Yoga

Intrinsic: belonging to the essential nature of a thing; from Latin, inwardly

Through Hatha yoga, we transform.  In one approach to this transformation, we build our foundations with the physical. We build our understanding from this foundation, from the ground to the sky, from the musculoskeletal system to the soul. Although asana appears to be a physical practice, it makes possible the leap from the physical to the spiritual.

This 200-hour course will link understanding of asana with the anatomical underpinnings of the poses. Asana is intrinsic to building a yoga practice, so this course will teach how to make asana accessible to anyone, whether the student is pregnant or 80 years old with osteoporosis. The program serves serious students of yoga whether they are seeking to teach or to deepen their understanding of yoga. Students will learn the fundamental nature of the poses to achieve the benefits of the poses safely, how to use them to move progressively to more challenging poses, and how to see the beauty of each individual’s pose. All work will be tailored to students’ individual needs.

Completion of the 200-hour program, including the 10-class mentorship, meets requirements to become a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher at the 200-hour level. The school is registered with Yoga Alliance.

Frequently asked questions

Who can take part in this program?

Those who want to understand their own practice better. Those who want to convey the gift of yoga to others.

I’m not very good at yoga. Can I do this?

If you want to join in the lifelong learning that is yoga, you can do this. Yoga is best understood and taught from humility.

This is a big commitment, how can I tell if this program is right for me?

Before you decide, take some classes or a workshop with Christie. She teaches at FUN Yoga Studio and Anahata Movement Arts, both in Riverside.

What if I can’t do the poses very well? What if I’m not flexible? What if I have physical problems or injuries?

Asana is the road to transformation. It’s not gymnastics. If you can breathe, you can do the poses – asana. What is more important than physical obstacles: That you want to learn, that you are willing to venture into new territory, that you are willing to work without ego.

What if I don’t want to teach? What will I get out of this program?

Your personal practice will gain depth and variety. You will learn to tailor your practice to your needs and to move deeper into the mind-body connections of yoga.

May I take part in just some sessions or weekends?

You may. This approach will work better for practitioners with some years of experience.
